Wood Floor on Treated ground skids

Wood Floor on Treated Skids

All Shed-n-Deck sheds come standard with a wood floor on treated ground skids. This works wonderfully in situations where the building site is relatively flat and level. There are some problems that can occur over time with this foundation system, including the need to relevel the foundation to maintain door operability. Releveling and door maintenance is not covered by the 10 year warranty with this floor system.

Shed-n-Deck recommends above all other foundation systems, a wood floor on concrete posts (caissons) and treated beams. This system places 6 concrete caissons, each 42" deep into the ground, below the frost line. It offers a very sound foundation that will not settle or move. In certain situations, such as in situations where the building site isn't level or flat enough, concrete posts are required. This adds an overall cost of $120 for any of Shed-n-Decks standard size sheds.

Reinforced Concrete Slab

Concrete Slab

The reinforced concrete slab is far more superior to the wood floor foundation. However, if you plan to spend a significant amount of time inside of your shed, the concrete slab foundation would cause excessive fatigue. Another drawback to using a concrete slab is cost. The cost of the slab foundation adds $6.00 per square foot to the cost of your shed. While the added cost might deter many, the added longevity is what gives this foundation system it's value.

Concrete slabs are 4 inches in thickness, and are reinforced using wire mesh.

Monolithic Slab

Monolithic Slab Foundation Detail

Monolithic slab foundations are required on any detached garage and may be required on sheds that exceed 120 square feet. A monolithic slab foundation is similar to the concrete slab, with one important difference. The perimeter of a monolithic slab must extend 12" below grade, and 6" above grade. The cost of a monolithic slab foundation varies, however, an average cost is roughly $8.00 per square foot.

Attached Structures

Any structure that is attached to an existing structure, i.e. your house, must have a foundation that matches that of the existing structure. If your house has a foundation wall system, then your attached shed or garage must also have a foundation wall system.
